What is sealing in tinplate-coil?

In the context of tinplate coils, "sealing" typically refers to the process of creating a secure and airtight closure between two components, often involving a lid and a container body. This process is commonly used in the manufacturing of metal containers, such as food cans, beverage cans, and aerosol cans. The goal of sealing is to prevent air, moisture, and contaminants from entering or exiting the container, thereby preserving the quality, freshness, and safety of the contents.
Sealing in tinplate coils involves several steps:
Preparation: The lid, often made from tinplate, is typically pre-formed to match the shape and size of the container opening. It may also have a curl or flange around its edge, which helps facilitate the sealing process.
Filling: The container is filled with its intended contents, such as food, beverages, or aerosol products.
Placement: The pre-formed lid is placed over the container opening, with the curl or flange fitting securely around the rim of the container.
Seaming: Seaming is the key process in sealing tinplate containers. It involves using specialized machines to press the lid onto the container body, while simultaneously rolling and compressing the curl or flange of the lid against the container's rim. This creates a hermetic seal by deforming and locking the two components together.
Double Seaming (for Certain Containers): Some containers, like beverage cans, have a double-seam structure. This involves creating two layers of interlocking curls or flanges to provide extra security and sealing integrity.
Inspection: After sealing, containers often go through an inspection process to ensure that the seal is airtight and that there are no defects that might compromise the contents or the seal itself.
Sealing is a critical step in the manufacturing of metal containers, as it directly impacts the quality, safety, and shelf life of the packaged products.
